Welcome

Welcome from the Head-Organisers

Dear participants of Delft 2021,

First of all we would like to warmly welcome you to the fourth and final regional selection conference of EYP NL!

We are Aniek and Pepijn, Head-organisers of Delft 2021. This means that we are ultimately responsible for all organisational aspects of the session. Normally, that would mean providing you with food during lunch and coffee breaks, or making sure the venues of the session are all in order. However, as you will already know, this year is a bit different. Instead of a physical venue, we have a digital one. Instead of typical large communal energisers, we energise in front of our devices. Perhaps most importantly, instead of being able to meet and get to know you all in person, we have to make due with the digital tools at our disposal.

However, EYP would not be EYP if we shied away from a challenge. If there is anything we have learnt in our years as alumni, it is that EYP and its members are resilient, adaptive, and innovative. The past three regional selection conferences have shown us that a digital session still allows you to experience EYP in its fullest. So while the challenges that these times present us with might seem daunting at times, it is imperative that you remain aware of your strengths and resilience.

We feel that the coronavirus pandemic has made the theme of this session even more important. The stress of being stuck at home has made it all the more important for people to be more aware of their physical and mental needs. Furthermore, the social obligation to adhere to governmental rules to slow the spread of the coronavirus has increased the need to be more aware of your own actions and your contribution to society.

As for now, we recommend that you become aware of the contents that are in this booklet and familiarise yourself with the organisation and the programme. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to us.

To conclude, we hope you are as excited about the session as we are. We are beyond excited to meet all of you! EYP is a special organisation, and it makes us very happy to get the opportunity to share it with you.

Welcome to Delft 2021!

Warmly,

Aniek Wiegand & Pepijn de Haan
Head-Organisers of Delft 2021

Welcome from the President

Dear Participants of Delft 2021.

I would hereby like to officially welcome you to the session and wish you the very best. With Delft, we wanted to indulge into a project that would push the boundaries of academic quality, wellbeing, as well as reinventing the concept of digital sessions and truly using the format to our advantage. Even though we are currently living in very challenging times, we should not give up and still try to attend events that help us develop, even in a digital format. Although this is all new to us, we are fully devoted to the cause of creating a memorable experience for each and every participant during the course of the session.

Furthermore, with the session motto of “awareness as an antidote”, we are committed to the idea of using all digital tools available to create an environment where everyone can voice their opinion, step out of their comfort zone, and most importantly, grow. We focused on topics which are very relevant in today’s world and we hope that everyone will be able to find something that suits their interest, and we are looking forward to hearing your opinions and ideas on all the pressing topics that trouble our society nowadays.

Once again, I am pleased to welcome you to the session and I can’t wait to start working with all of you in creating a truly memorable experience for everyone.

See you soon!

Vedad Misirlić

President of Delft 2021

Welcome from the Editor

Dear Delegates and Officials of Delft RS,

It is quite complicated in these times of a pandemic, but I am glad that all of our great participants are able to adapt themselves to take part in EYP events even though they are not physically happening. My media team is still thrilled to present their creative skills and they will transform their planned projects into a digital format.

I think that the coronavirus pandemic made EYP even more important, because staying in touch with your friends and finding new ones right now is very hard. This is where digital events of our community can really help us to develop new friendships and gain useful skills, even though we are at home, probably even in a country where a lockdown is happening. Furthermore, the social obligation to adhere to governmental rules to slow the spread of the coronavirus has increased the need to be more aware of your own actions and your contribution to society.

To finish my text, I want to tell you that I am extremely excited to meet all of you and I hope that all of you use the opportunity to take part in a project of my team!

See you in the world wide web,

Luca Peinsold

Editor of Delft 2021

Welcome from the Head of Jury

Dear participants,

I am very glad to welcome you as Head of Jury to this new and exciting Session that is Delft 2021. Together with my team, we will be selecting participants to continue their journey at the National Selection Conference. I am really looking forward to seeing your potential and growth over these two days. I hope that you are as excited as I am to be part of this Session and that you make the most of it! In strange circumstances such as these, look forward to what this innovative digital Session will bring and see this as a learning experience – it certainly will be for me! This will also be the first digital Session that I am participating in and while it may be a challenge, I see it as an opportunity to adapt and to learn. While challenging yourself at this session, make sure you also remember to enjoy the Session and have fun!

See you online!

Heather Gowman

Head of Jury of Delft 2021

Session Theme

“Moving into a healthier future with awareness as an antidote”

The participants will raise awareness of issues by taking a closer look at things, as through a magnifying glass. This symbol is also in line with the scientific character of the city and the microscope that was further developed there. The conference will further focus on participant welfare and creating a general relaxed atmosphere at the session.

During the session, we will further dive into the theme “awareness”. We live in very confusing times, so the need to be aware of the problems, difficulties and obstacles that currently in our society gets of more and more paramount significance.
